Born
in 1948 Albert has lived and worked in Holyhead all of his life.
Married to wife Mary with three children, all boys and all now
grown men with their own families.
Albert’s working life began in a timber yard in 1964 but
a few months later his father arranged that he would start work
in the marine yard in Holyhead as a ships carpenter [shipwright].
During his time at technical college there were no specific courses
for shipwrights, so was placed with the joiners and subsequently
gained qualifications in building joinery.
Throughout this time and during his school days Albert had always
wanted to try his hand at woodturning but was never allowed. In
1985 or thereabouts he took the plunge and enrolled on a two day
course with Keith Rowley a gentleman in the woodturning world.
To this day Albert has considered those two days to be the best
of his life. Albert’s teachings are centred on the rules
of turning imparted to by Keith.
Although having been a full time firefighter at RAF Valley for
the last twenty-five years Albert has always run his own workshop
and for the last fifteen years specialised in woodturning both
teaching and demonstrating for many clubs and institutions, both
here and abroad and at the same time producing work to order and
also artistic one off pieces both utilitarian and decorative.
